Chapter 7: Ding user configuration

Ding uses three roles in the default configuration:

  • authenticated user: The default authenticated user role is intended for library users who log into the site with the library system to manage their loans, perform reservations etc.
  • author: This role is intended for normal content creators - users who manage articles, events, pages and other content types defined in Ding.
  • editor: The editor role is intended for site editors who manage content and other more technical aspects of the site such as user accounts, comments, URL redirects etc.

Creation of author and editor roles and assignment of permissions to these roles is handled by a Feature in the ding_default_permissions module.

Some Ding installations create an additional role, superadmin, and use the Admin role module to ensure that users of this role have all available permissions.
